Papanjari (PJ) was initially started from social media (friendster and facebook) around late 2007 - mid 2008. Where it was originally named as Indonesia Fingerboarding Association (IFA) , and it got changed to Papanjari on October 2008. The new name change to make it more localized, catchy and less official.
We started with small group gathering at malls in South of Jakarta which then grew and increased quite fast, with numbers of pockets gatherings happening across Indonesia. The growth in social media was rapidly increasing and the numbers of people fingerboarding went off the chart.
We finally managed to held our first national scale competition at 2009, which marks the birth of The Kings of Fingerboarding events. Yes we named it first, there are other contests with similar name, but we started it -and we have proof :D. The turnaround on the event was huge, which allow us to bring several more The Kings of Fingerboard events along the way.
Like any other communities that are based on hobbies, Papanjari has it ups and down. But the love of Fingerboarding is never went away.
It always amaze us on how this tiny skateboard can bring so much joy and countless of friendships. We will try to keep on flipping for Indonesian Fingerboarding Scene.
